Friday night I went to see My Chemical Romance.

I was meeting up with a group of people I had met online, because the internet gods smiled upon me and granted that yes, perhaps a few Utah people could Love The Slash. Accordingly, I tried to dress so as to be easily spotted in a crowd--a bright turquoise sweater, among other things.

I came out of my room and spun for my siblings.

LU: How do I look?
BABY BRO #2: Where you going? Date?
LU: I'm going to a concert.
BB2: For who?
LU: My Chemical Romance?
BB2: OMG, you're going to get beaten up. Go put on something black!

In my head I was going, Mikey Way has a cat named Bunny, I don't think so, but he was very earnest and adorable, so I let him dress me up. (This is the first bandom band he hasn't spent half an hour lecturing me on how the music sucks, it's just girls think the band is hot. (To which my response is generally, get real, FOB is not hot, barring Patrick, who is the one with the bestest talent anyway.) I let him feel his superior rock music knowledge, because he is so ridiculously cute for a teenage brother.)

I had to go to work dressed up, and then head to the concert from there. I was already bound to be half an hour late, because work needed me, but then I got hideously, incredibly lost, so I didn't make it until the opening band had finished and just before the second opener went on. I was in a mosh pit! It was vaguely ridiculous, but still kind of fun. I felt mainly that clearly spending years being climbed on by four-year-olds was good practice for that moment.

(I also must have looked utterly lost, because people kept being nice to me. Not just the girls I met there (though they were awesome) but, like, random strangers. There were seven-yos at that concert not getting as patronized as I was getting. Speaking of which: seven-yo girl saying that Gerard has a sexy butt? Disturbing.)

We retreated to a back corner where we could see the band for MCR's performance; I feel like a ridiculous tweenie bopper, but omg--Gerard Way, clearly you are communing with the crowd. (And lordamighty, the man has pretty arms.) This had the unfortunate side effect of completely destroying my fourth wall, so that I will not be able to read any Gerard slash for a few weeks, he now seems like a person as opposed to a fictional character. But it was very cool when it was happening.

After the concert we went to eat at...possibly Denny's, and spent like an hour and a half talking fandom. I love fangirls. I could only follow about half the conversation, because I'm on the fringes of bandom, and anyway no matter the fandom I'm a wank-avoider, but it was still so fun. And everybody was so nice. You'd think I'd get over it, what with this happening every time I meet fangirls IRL, and yet? Pleasantly surprised every time.

I cannot wait for the pageantry and flowers of the HCT.

ETA: And then I came home and stayed up half the night waiting for the caffeine to wear off; slumped blearily to class at nine in the morning, and returned to be told that a) my computer was going to stay in the shop until I found the backup disks and b) my little brother wanted his computer back. For the rest of the weekend. Hence delayed update and falling through on discussions with people, for which I profoundly apologize.
