Feb. 14th, 2004 07:43 pm| Marriage is love. | |||||
For everyone who totally missed that (I did) it's a sign I support Gay Marriages and if you do, please post it in your LJ also.
Have spent this evening patiently bashing into Tyler's head all that is wrong with his stance on this issue.
Winged Kodomo: *sigh* What's wrong with not liking gay marriage? I don't think it's morally right.
eahallulat: Fine, don't like people being gay. That shouldn't get in the way of liking THEM or believing they should have the same rights as other people.
Winged Kodomo: I didn't say I didn't like gay people. They just make me feel uncomfortable, that's all.
Winged Kodomo: and marriage is a union between a man and a...ah, never mind. I don't care.
eahallulat: But it's the same THING.
eahallulat: I'm not talking abt religiously...but I know someone whose uncle is losing the person he loves because that person's visa is expiring. If that person were a woman, they could be married and the person could stay.
Winged Kodomo: you're uncle is gay?
eahallulat: No, but I know someone whose uncle is.
eahallulat: You missed the first part of that. ^_^
Winged Kodomo: *shrug* Why were they here in the first place? Why not renew the visa? What's their story?
eahallulat: And I'm quite good friends with two Lesbians, and I think they should have the right to put each other on their insurance plans.
eahallulat: I don't know the whole story...she was just kind of waffling abt how hard it is to lose someone you love.
Winged Kodomo: I don't care about insurance. It's the marriage thing I feel awkward about.
eahallulat: But insurance companies won't accept it unless it IS a marriage. It's a legality thing.
Winged Kodomo: Ugh! Life sucks!
eahallulat: Yes. It does.
Winged Kodomo: I hope you don't think less of me on my views on gay marriage. I just see it as a union between two people of the opposite sex. A man and a woman.
eahallulat: But that's just the definition of the word. Think abt it...do you support their rights to supporting each other, to putting each other as benefitees in insurance, to justifying the renewal of visas?
eahallulat: If they called it schmoogle instead of marriage...would you support it?
Winged Kodomo: *eyes bear trap warily*
eahallulat: It's just a WORD.
Winged Kodomo: Maybe to you. *sad sigh* Too mean...it means something more.
eahallulat: I can see what you're getting at...and in some ways I feel that way, too.
Winged Kodomo: *sigh*
eahallulat: But...in a lot of ways...it's the SEALING that means that kind of thing to me. the temple covenant. The kind of marriage ava. to the general public...why shouldn't people who are the same gender be allowed to call it that?
Winged Kodomo: It's not right. Two men can't procreate naturally, and neither can two women. I'm not against loving someone of the opposite sex.
eahallulat: Well...I don't find it natural either. But what they do out of my sight is not my concern...and no matter WHAT they do, they should have basic human rights. This is like the pink triangle...a lesser degree, but the same thing.
Winged Kodomo: what's the pink triangle
eahallulat: Hitler was against gay people as much as Jews. You know the Jews had to wear six-pointed stars? And were later sent to extermination/concentration camps? The gays had the same prob, but instead of the star they had pink triangles.
Winged Kodomo: *screams* Please...don't bring up that Jewish triangle...*cries*
eahallulat: It's the SAME THING, Tyler...I know it's sad, but it really does apply...
eahallulat: Or were you being vi?
Winged Kodomo: No...I had to wear a triangle once...in middle school...
Winged Kodomo: horrible experience.
eahallulat: Oh...kay...
eahallulat: A triangle? Or a star?
Winged Kodomo: We we're basically lower than dirt and had to do what we were told.
Winged Kodomo: triangle
eahallulat: Ah. Who was your teacher?
Winged Kodomo: Mr. Morrow.
Winged Kodomo: Nice guy. Odd though.
eahallulat: Never had him.
eahallulat: Sounds like a good teacher, though...
Winged Kodomo: *glares ruthfully* You experience it, then say that.
eahallulat: Well? Will you ever, EVER let someone get away with the government support of something like that to millions, now that you've experienced it?
Winged Kodomo: I'm too crippled with fear.
Winged Kodomo: But...I'd rather die.
eahallulat: Exactly. Middle school is when you should have teachers that teach you how to find out what you're willing to stand for, and stand against.
And he never really answered that, changed the subject, sooo...

Date: 2004-02-15 12:36 pm (UTC)So he doesn't like Teh Gay. I don't like people from west Belfast, but I'm sure as hell not going to run around denying them rights.
Well.....
Date: 2004-02-15 03:42 pm (UTC)My mother went off and off about the sins of it all the other day, and I think I scared her, but I said "Well, what would you think of me if I was gay?" and she looked at me and said "Then I'd think you had a mental disease that needed to be fixed." Argh. Sigh. That's me mumsy.
