Nicked from [livejournal.com profile] airgiodslv, the Shuffle Bandom First Lines meme!

You know that iTunes meme, where you pick the first line of each song that comes up on shuffle? I am going to do that with my del.icio.us. That way if anyone needs a distraction, they can play; if anyone needs to be reminded of old awesome fic they haven't read in a while or introduced to new awesome fic, they can browse through the comments; if anyone needs some fandom spirit, they can steal this and do it themselves. If anyone needs to just not think about it for a while, they can scroll on past.

I debated whether this would be more fun if I used fic summary blurbs and/or the lines I have each fic saved under, so if you want to take this and twist it, please be my guest.

Shuffle your recs however you choose and post the first lines (or first few lines) of the first twenty-five fics that turn up. Have other people guess the fic and author in the comments.

Plz note: these are quotes. I did not write them. They are not mine. )
Perfection Wasted

And another regrettable thing about death
is the ceasing of your own brand of magic,
which took a whole life to develop and market --
the quips, the witticisms, the slant
adjusted to a few, those loved ones nearest
the lip of the stage, their soft faces blanched
in the footlight glow, their laughter close to tears,
their tears confused with their diamond earrings,
their warm pooled breath in and out with your heartbeat,
their response and your performance twinned.
The jokes over the phone. The memories
packed in the rapid-access file. The whole act.
Who will do it again? That's it: no one;
imitators and descendants aren't the same.

John Updike

All of you: I would miss your brand of magic.
...I couldn't resist asking [livejournal.com profile] ink_on_the_page for Spencer/Shane, so now I must pay the piper.

The first TEN people to comment in this post get to request a drabble of any pairing/character of their choosing from me. In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level. If you absolutely can't write, I don't see why you wouldn't be able to offer drawings or icons or something instead.

I guess you can specify whether you want a drabble, drawing, or icon, but I'm miserable at drawing, so... :D? I can do icons or drabbles, though. Or attempt amusing stick figures?

Most of you are here for bandom, anyway, but I can attempt my hand at something else, if I'm familiar with it :D

Ask me for my top 5 anything: fandoms, ice cream flavours, cartoon moments, women in my fandoms, OTPs, ideal holiday destinations, goals for the future, celebrity crushes, books I wish would be made into movies, love songs, ANYTHING. BE CREATIVE!

(I will need things to do as brain-breaks between writing like a madwoman tomorrow, plz respond!)
Spending ALL of today being insanely busy with schoolwork, but if I can't take short breaks I will go insane, so:

Ask me either a broad question (i.e 'who is your cruelest character?', 'what is your most optimistic story?') or a specific question/request ('what world does ___ come from?', 'tell me about ___') and I will answer you. Or you can ask meta- questions like 'what was the inspiration for creating ____?'
Monday Meme:

Ask me a fandom, and I will tell you:

+ OTP
+ Runner-up
+ Honorable mention(s)
+ Crack pairing(s)
+ Ship everyone else seems to like, but I don't

(By OTP, I mean favorite, not death-or-doom-by-contradiction)

(Ummmm...you can feel free to ask, because I'm sure I've forgotten some, but lessee what options I can offer you off the top of my head: Castle, Big Bang Theory, Leverage, SGA, SPN, HIMYM, Greek, Glee, Melrose Place, Psych, Merlin, bandom, Harry Potter, Korman, Harry Dresden, most Diana Wynne Jones books, Chuck, Eureka, Pushing Daisies, Studio 60, Buffy, House)
It is possible I've stolen this from every single person on my flist today. (Including, with this very phrasing, [livejournal.com profile] sunsetmog.)

Meme:

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all.

ETA: I am open to questions re: Supernatural, SGA, J2, Harry Potter, Leverage, and of course bandom.

I know I'm missing some, y'all. C'mon. Get on the internet and tell us all about the awesomest parts of our canon.

ETA: I know it isn't fair, and I'll try not to add any more. But Maple reminded me about that interview where BRENDON'S MOM STILL LOVES HIM. Which is my favorite thing in the world.
I kind of want to sit around and play CSM for all the fandoms I know with all my friends.

Then I remember how I have a ten-page and a three-page paper due tomorrow, and remember how procrastination is a bad thing.

*sigh*

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to back y'all into a corner, though, if I'm not ded from exhaustion. Just a warning.
Mother to Son

Well, son, I'll tell you:
Life for me ain't been no crystal stair.
It's had tacks in it,
And splinters,
And boards torn up,
And places with no carpet on the floor—
Bare.
But all the time
I'se been a-climbin' on,
And reachin' landin's,
And turnin' corners,
And sometimes goin' in the dark
Where there ain't been no light.
So, boy, don't you turn back.
Don't you set down on them steps.
'Cause you finds it's kinder hard.
Don't you fall now—
For I'se still goin', honey,
I'se still climbin',
And life for me ain't been no crystal stair.

Langston Hughes

I love this poem not just in itself, but because of the memories attached; I was made to memorise it in the seventh grade by one of the awesomest teachers I've ever had in my whole life, this tiny wrinkled white lady with an accent stronger than Klatchian coffee. When I recite it, I sound like her.
There was going to be this whole thing where I was a productive member of society tonight, but my lab ran late and I am exhausted to death and instead I am going to go die in my bed.

But I like talking about my stories, and if any of you would like to know--well, have a meme!

Comment with a story I've written, and I will tell you something about the story that didn't make it onto the page.

Gacked from, uh, approximately half my flist.

Tomorrow I will be a worthwhile citizen, I prooooooomise
Yesterday's Thing That Made Me Happy (7)

Yesterday, it snowed. And snowed. And snowed. And then it snowed some more.

I drank hot caramel cider with my mother, watched ridiculous romcoms, and wrapped Christmas gifts.

SNOW DAY.
Yesterday's Thing That Made Me Happy (6)

My mommy and I went shopping for a Christmas present for me last night; my old purse's strap has snapped, and I badly need a new one.

I found the perfect purse--exactly the right size, unique without refusing to match all my outfits, good length strap.

I found the perfect purse, and it was a Fossil, which is a really good quality brand, which means the original price on the thing was $85.00

Between sales, coupons, and a last-minute credit voucher, we got it for $26.

THAT'S RIGHT, MY MOM AND I WIN AT SHOPPING.

CHRISTMAS MAIL!!!!

Mail of any kind gives me a shiver of happiness, and Christmas mail even more so.

When it comes from my flist--[livejournal.com profile] imntsaying and [livejournal.com profile] lemmealone, thank you SO MUCH--I just have to smile and smile and smile.

Thank you for the coffee and the chocolate and for the magnet that says "Crikey!!!", because I have never had a magnet from so far away before and it made me laugh.

But thank you most especially for loving me and thinking of me, because those things make me smile and smile and smile.
Yesterday's Thing That Made Me Happy (4)

Defeated by the eye doctor and his evil pupil-expanding eyedrops that meant I couldn't drive, walk around in public, read, or write, I stuck Bringing Up Baby in the portable DVD player and took a long, hot, muscle-melting bath.

Mmmmmmm.
Yesterday's Thing That Made Me Happy (Day Three)

I really am just bouncing up and down over the While You Were Sleeping fic. It is FUN TO WRITE!! It has secret tattoos and adoptive families and guitar teachers and record contracts and ZACK THE MARSHMALLOW, and I got to spend about half of yesterday just writing, writing, writing.

I LOVE TO WRITE. I DON'T ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT, BUT IT'S TRUE.
Yesterday's Thing That Made Me Happy:

I have a fabulous friend. Her name is MusicalGal, and she is married to Mr. MusicalGal, who is equally awesome, and yesterday the MusicalGals and I put up their Christmas tree.

I don't get to see the MusicalGals nearly as often as I'd like, and so every time I do I am surprised and delighted at how easily we fall into rhythm with each other, how we have things to say to each other and can follow the wanderings of our minds, how we've reached the stage where we can stop explaining ourselves and just be ourselves instead.

They've just moved to live near my parents' house, and I am so ridiculously happy about it I can hardly stand it.
