My Fannish Five Things

For
harriet_vane, Top Five Reasons Spencer Loves Brendon
1. Brendon wants Spencer to be a dork. Brendon loves it when Spencer is a dork. Spencer spends a lot of time being the serious one, the responsible one, worrying about being a grown-up, but Brendon wants the fun part of Spencer as well as the other parts. Spencer can be all the sides of himself with Brendon, and Brendon enjoys all of them. Spencer wouldn't give that up for anything.
2. Brendon trusts Spencer. It makes Spencer feel strong and grounded at the same time, that absolute faith in his capabilities and his good intentions. He makes mistakes, sure, but Brendon knows Spencer never means to, and Spencer knows Brendon will let him make it better.
3. Brendon has an incredible capacity to love things. He isn't afraid to open himself wide; to really focus on and adore music or surfing or Family Guy or...or Spencer. Brendon lives his life like it's awesome. He's wholehearted, in whatever he does. Sometimes that means he gets hurt, badly hurt, but it never stops him.
4. Corollary to 1 and 3: Brendon is a fucking dork, okay, and it's fun. Fun to watch, fun to join in, fun to mock. Brendon is fun.
5. Brendon is surprising in his small kindnesses. He can be staggeringly inconsiderate or thoughtless, nobody's denying that, but he's also been known to bring back an armful of the techs' favorite candy bars or send his sister-in-law a hat with an armadillo from a gift shop in Texas. And when Spencer has a headache or is worried about something, Brendon makes himself small and warm and still, lying under Spencer's arm in the dark, invisible but there.

Top Five Reasons Brendon Loves Spencer
1. Brendon can trust Spencer. He's earned it, he deserves it. There are so many people in Brendon's life he doesn't feel like he can trust, but Spencer...Brendon can rely on Spencer.
2. Spencer likes it when Brendon's a dork. He encourages it. This is necessary, because Brendon can't help being a dork. Sometimes Spencer even joins in.
3. Spencer takes Brendon seriously when that's what Brendon needs, and he can always tell. He sees the parts of Brendon that aren't just about being a dork; more than that, though, he gets when Brendon needs his dorkitude to be taken seriously, when Brendon really needs to talk in-depth about chord changes or Larry David, needs to know that it's important to Spencer what Brendon is interested in.
4. Spencer is Brendon's rock to lean on and to hide behind; his shelter and security. Brendon is too honest, too open, to avoid getting hurt a lot of the time; it's Spencer who restrains that, who answers the hard questions in interviews and once faked a car breakdown so that Brendon didn't get to his niece's baby blessing until after the part where the men in the family all went up to lay their hands on her head. Spencer stops Brendon from laying himself bare when that's dangerous, and patches him up when Brendon forges ahead anyway.
5. Spencer calls Brendon on being a jerk. Which doesn't sound like a reason to love somebody, but very few people do, and Brendon doesn't want to be a jerk, he's just really bad at relating to people and grew up in ways that messed up his head. But he honestly wants to be a good person, and Spencer tells him when he's making bad choices and hurting people.
These apply to all the Brendon and Spencers in my head, btw, even the platonic ones!
