The funny thing is, I used to be an HUGE Harry Potter fan. Enormous. I owned nine cloaks and presented a paper at a convention (really badly, but never mind that) and went to premiers in a nine-layer reasonably-chronologically-authentic Helga Hufflepuff costume. That I had sewed myself. Etc.

And I almost didn't even go last night. In the end, I just thought that I didn't want to be so grown-up I missed a midnight premiere of my very first fandom...and I went. And I'm even glad I did. But I think if I hadn't I wouldn't have regretted that either, and it kind of makes me sad inside. But sleeeeep!

So, anyway,
So, Steve Kloves, still pretending Ron isn't anything but comic relief, eh? AWESOME. *kicks him*

All our weebaby actors did a wonderful job, Tom and Dan and Rupert and...even Emma, okay, really wasn't bad. ALAN RICKMAN BLEW THE DOORS OFF THE DAMN THEATRE, and so did Michael. And Evanna, really, who even needs to ask? SHE WAS FANTASTIC.

My main objections are a) as previously mentioned, Ron is not JUST A COMIC RELIEF CHARACTER, okay? His complete absence at Harry's side, staunchly supporting him through thick and thin, is wearing me out; b) I really wish they had done a little more to lessen the pedophile-vibe between Dumbledore and Harry...both Michael and Dan did their best but especially the opening sequences were really...creepy; c) I really don't think the Felix scene should have been quite so...grass-suggestive; I mean I know I'm reading a lot of Panic fic these days but even so, wow, was he meant to seem so HIGH, and also the sadness at the idea that "the bowl would be empty" was, uh, an unfortunate choice of phrase; d) Tom Riddle being completely robotic fails to sell me on the idea that he charmed Horcrux info out of Slughorn, and d) wow, the visual symbolism in this movie is BLINDINGLY OBVIOUS, fail, director!

Things I loved, on the other hand: as previously mentioned, Severus Snape. I LOVED HIM. He totally sold all the sarcasm and doubt and EVERYTHING. The cave sequence was blindingly cool, and so was the bathroom fight. I really adored Lavender, and all the Ron/Hermione stuff except the birds being lame(even the potion scene, despite the blatant misogyny.) The unbreakable vow leaving scars was AWESOME. And I adored the Pensieve special effects, and the hourglass measuring conversation. And Slughorn's interactions with Hermione. Aragog's funeral was THE BEST THING EVER. And the lights dispelling the dark mark were awesomesauce.
