Okay, so, thanks to everybody who offered to "help" me with the problems with my boss. She is what you called her. However, she is not normally a bitch to me.

Okay, she's a bad choice for a manager. She plays favorites and tries to pit her staff against each other. For instance, the woman she likes least happens to be my lead teacher. She has three times gone to Shannon with complaints about how I'm being treated that I didn't make. Luckily, Shannon is rational enough to talk to me about it, and we clear up the misunderstandings. This does not happen with 75% of the staff problems she creates or amplifies.

But, see, the thing is, usually I am among the favored. I'm a good employee. I'm prompt; I'm enthusiastic; I care about the kids and what I do; I never whine about sudden changes or drudge work; I always give at least two weeks' notice before I so much as leave an hour early; etc. She may use me as a weapon, but she does not use weapons against me. Therefore being on her wrong side made me need to blow up. And sympathise a lot more with the ones she treats like this all the time.

Special thanks to Kaalee and Sarah--just listening to you two banter is an mightily amusing cure for a bad day--and Ellen, who is the best person I can imagine as a permanent RP partner. You made it all better, the three of you.

Today was a good day, though. And

Hallelujah!

Josh is no longer, by court order, permitted to be the responsibility of his mother for even half an hour. If she's with him, there has to be another adult there, and he won't live with her.

You know, in a lot of ways, I feel so sorry for this woman. Her child. And drug users--I can't find myself blaming her for a lot when she's under the control of something else.

But mostly, I'm so relieved. Today Josh wrapped his hands around the neck of another kid and shook him. His classmate has bruises on his throat. Where but at home would he learn that kind of a response? In the week he's been with his grandmother, he's calmed down already. Yeah, it'll be a bumpy road, but thank you, Lord, he's out of that woman's reach. Hopefully, he'll get to where he has a good childhood. And hopefully he'll get the help that he needs, if more than his home life was affecting him.

Spending tomorrow getting the room and car cleaned, laundry done, presents wrapped...if I'm brave enough, even my e-mail inbox cleaned out, which I've been swearing to do forever.

Personally I think it's because you actually sympathise with the druggy mother. I know some, they're nice, but I wouldn't feel all that bad if they had their children taken away...

Well, that...kind of. But also the whole letting the manager off the hook for being mean to you thing.
