For the fandom at large: how does one go about commissioning fanart?

I don't really have an artist in mind, just some people set up in a certain way.

Not too anime-y or cartoon-y (no offense to those styles, just not what I need in this particular case).

Can anybody recommend an artist who takes requests, or tell me a community to post a request on, or something?

I could write something for the artist in return, or I think I could afford about ten bucks (Amazon gift certificates or something, or a mailed check).

HELP!!!

I think commissioning fan artists can be difficult. If they're a friend they might draw something for you, otherwise you'd have to pay. And more than a fic or $10 voucher in return usually. I know glockgal does commissions, but she's not taking any at the moment. You need to check her website (http://glock.doyourthing.org/index.html) periodically. Same goes for lizardspots - check her [Bad username or site: http://www.lizardjunk.tk/ @ livejournal.com]website for an idea of her prices as well. There's also seviet (one of the most popular and best HP fan artists). She takes commissions. See her website (http://www.artdungeon.net/). They're my favourite artists. :) I'm sure there are others you can ask, but they're the best I've found.

leelastarsky ( I have no clue how to code the name)
does some truely beautiful work, and I beleave she takes commisions for fandom and other art. She is also a professional artist. (and has a very cool desk that I have seen pictures of and hold great jealousy for..) hee hee!
