THE PREMIER!!!!...and home again.
Dec. 17th, 2003 04:05 pmSo came home. Cute conversation with five-year-old in airport. On practically no sleep, went to theatre, had no ticket. Got escorted into theatre, only to be told that Tyler was waiting outside w/ it for me (trust Ty to be the one to offer). They showed old Looney Toons beforehand. It was so good to see everyone. Oc, had to put up w/ being teased about dumping my drink in Chase's lap last time. It WAS Tyler's fault!
The movie. Was. INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So much incredible Pippin! When he sings, Amy is going to DIE!!! Also, since he stayed clean and Frodo didn't, am now more inclined to think him prettier than Frodo.
Elijah's acting was incedible, though...the eerie similarities between him and Gollum as the Ring took hold of him...it was just so cool all around.
SAM!!!! *weeps for Sam* SAM!!! You were so amazing! And he betrayed you, and you didn't care, and you did all the work and made all the sacrifices! YOU are the hero of this trilogy, I don't care WHAT anybody else says! (Okay, okay, in the movie it's harder to show Frodo's moralistic struggle that makes him the hero...Sam is the physical hero...but I DON'T CARE!!! All bow before Sam!!!!)
Poor Merry was the only hobbit who didn't get zillions of great scenes. He only got one, poor chap.
The problem with the rulers in this book is that they put their personal preferences before their responsibilities. They're not real rulers! I've never been so disgusted with so many people I was supposed to be cheering for! The only stars I was really cheering for were the hobbits!! (I'm sorry, Legolas and Gimli, while great, were not stars. I was cheering for them.)
Too much carnage...even worse than before, it was more...graphic, somehow. However, there was more plot beyond the carnage, so I suppose I have to forgive them.
Tyler (idiot) drank three humongous drinks before the movie. About halfway through he started saying he was going to explode. I told him to slip out during one of the battle scenes...all he'd miss was screaming. He's all "that's the best part!" Me: "Men!" Aragorn kisses Arawyn (drat! I know I spelt that wrong.) All the women in the audience go Whooo! Yay! etc. &co. Tyler: "Oh, c'mon you knew it was going to happen!" Me: "Yes, but they finally kissed! And he did it so WELL!" Tyler: "Women!" I guess we're even.
The ending was so cool! I'm pretty sure it was almost nothing like the book, but I don't care, it was great!
The movie seriously makes me think Merry/Pippin. And if TT made me think, "Giving Sam the Rosie interest to make him seem less crushing on Frodo didn't really work," RotK had me thinking, "Okay, Frodo is DEFINITELY after Sam, and I'm pretty sure it's reciprocated. Get out of the closet, you two."
All my initial reactions.
So good to be home!
