Does anybody out there know whether it's canon that McGonagall taught the Marauders??

Yes, I'm pretty sure. I don't know where it's mentioned in canon, but according to HPL she started teaching in 1956, which would make her the Marauders' teacher. And I've never known the lexicon to be wrong.

Definitely. Just read the scene in PoA last night where McG was saying how she was sorry that she was so hard on Peter in her classes.

Well, in that scene in the pub in Hogsmeade where Fudge, Flitwick, Hagrid and McGonagall are all talking about Sirius Black while Harry's under the table listening, she certainly sounds like she did.
