Oct. 19th, 2007 08:22 amDear Yuletide Santa:
MERRY YULETIDE! I am terribly terribly excited to be writing you this letter. I love these books and have always wished more people would explore them through fic. No matter which fandom you match me in, you will delight me by presenting me with fic.
In general, you should be aware that I love all forms of humour except bodily, and that I have a serious, serious story-kink for the advice-giving friend/sister/space alien. I like seeing the tone of canon kept as much as possible. If I requested a character, I like him/her...so please, even if it is necessary to be mean to them, let it end happily.
I don't like non-con, scarily dark, unresolved angst, or deliberate cruelty (except by villains.)
HOMEWARD BOUNDERS: I have a terrific love for this world, for the duty and friendship and longing that are all messily bound up in it. My official request details my ultimate dream, but anything with the three of them interacting is also wonderful. If you were to throw in Konstam, large amounts of Khans, Helen snarking, and/or Dr. Macready, I might possibly explode with joy.
VIEW FROM SATURDAY: What I love about Konigsburg is her ability to portray how people become deeply attached to one another; I will always want to know more about how the bond was tested and deepened as the Souls lived out their lives. I have a scenario in my head with Ethan and Noah both competing for Nadia's attention, while Julian stands by and offers advice to all parties and tries to be impartial even though he totally wants Ethan for himself. (And in the end, of course, Ethan realises that Julian was always his best option, and the Ns live happily quarrelly ever after.) But as I said--feel free to mix them up at will, and to come up with your own plotlines. I can see all of those ships happening under the right circumstances. Or even just gen, or shipped with OCs, so long as the four of them support each other. I do love Ms. O, and would have requested her if allowed five people, so if you don't object, I would adore knowing she is still just as bonded with them. (And I am a seekrit Ms. O/Mr. Singh shipper. But obviously, if you included that as well, I would have to conclude that you are a god, and worship at your feet.)
CIRCLE OF MAGIC: Er. I had intended to request Briar. I missed that I hadn't when I got my request e-mail. If you absolutely cannot write him...it is my fault and I will take my lumps. Tris is my ultimate favorite, anyway, so if you wanted to just write about her, or write about her interacting with the girls, or whathaveyou, that's good, too (so long as you don't ship her with any of the teachers or next-gen students; those are my only firm rules here). But! If you can write Briar, please do. I have so wanted to see him go visit her at college. He can come as part of an entourage of the whole family, or just with Niko, or by himself, or whatever you please. But I want him to see her outside in the world, functioning aside from their family, and react to that. (If this ends in Briar/Tris, I would do dances. But it doesn't have to.) If the college thingum doesn't work out, play with them however you like. *g*
TAM LIN: I just, there was never enough exploration of the Robin-Thomas dynamic in the books. So many wonderful and complicated things were hinted at, but of course Janet only saw and heard bits and pieces. The Horatio conversation, just for example--*sighs wistfully*. It doesn't have to be shippy (although personally all that subtext intrigues me greatly), but they obviously have a meaningful connection, and I'd love to see it explored. Anyone other characters wandering through I have no objection to--I love them all--but yes, please. Robin and Thomas. Discuss.
If you have an idea that doesn't fit the prompts, but really grabs you, and the prompts really just aren't working for you, I'd rather have something you enjoyed writing and feel you did well with than something you struggled with and aren't proud of.
I'm very excited to see your work, and I hope you have a lot of fun writing.
Fondestly yours, Lu
