Feb. 20th, 2011 07:59 pmWas going to spend evening doing a State Of The Lu and betaing. Instead, discovered a NEW THING I AM ALLERGIC TO, oh joy of joys.
So instead, I am nauseated and waiting for the Benadryl to kick in so that I can simultaneously breathe and enjoy the way the world goes all soft and weirdly fascinating, shortly followed by passing out for twelve hours.
(Parsnips, in case anyone was wondering. What do parsnips, carrots, bananas, and melons have in COMMON, even?)

Date: 2011-02-21 07:43 am (UTC)mugwort? latex? something.
(I am ASTONISHED I don't have more troubles with foods. Bananas, I have to be careful about as far as itchy tongue issues, but otherwise.)

Date: 2011-02-21 10:25 am (UTC)However, I may have found the culprit - it could be a pollen allergy. Apparently pollen proteins are structurally similar to some food proteins, and so allergic reactions can be triggered by both. Melons, parsnips, carrots, bananas, they're all listed as potential triggers, although not all for the same type of pollen, which means you're probably allergic to more than one type. Apparently it's worse during the pollen season, less likely in winter, and cooking the food reduces the risk of a reaction. So, I imagine, would taking antihistamines beforehand, but avoiding the food entirely is probably safer.
