Whole List

Okay, I picked Penny because I love her, but also because she is my favorite female character on the most male-driven show I have ever watched. The cast is four guys and one girl; the intended audience is blatantly male, and misogynism is one of the most prominent "humorous" devices employed by the scriptwriters.
But Penny kicks enough ass to win out over all of that. Penny could hogtie and castrate a guy in sixty seconds; she's proficient with firearms; and she totally won that girlfight. She's sarcastic, she has impeccable strategy in battle, and she's holding out strong in the face of poverty and constant career disappointment.
She's also a big softie. She gives easily and generously of her time and possessions, even though she has very little of either. She sees through to people's inner goodness. She'll go to the mattresses for the people who are important to her, and she'll win.
She has her flaws; she can be insecure, she fell for Leonard Hoffsteder (why, Penny, why would you do that, the writers are imbeciles), and her "stupidity" is often portrayed as genuine idiocy rather than a simple inability to comprehend technical details of science or geekery she has no interest in, but I can tell you this: since they finally started giving Penny women to talk to, I would watch The Penny Show. I don't need the rest of the cast at all. (I mean, okay, I would miss Sheldon a LOT, but I would still avidly support a spinoff with no guys at all.)
