In a WEEK. I'm kind of concerned that Best Buy might have come under a Curse of Competence with some kind of world-ending subclause, but I HAVE A REAL COMPUTER and am so happy I may cry.

That said: OMG suddenly there is Social Life all over my, uh, life? Friday I'm going to see My Chem with [livejournal.com profile] desertneon, who is an awesome concert companion and even willing to make me be brave and go hang around fences to tell GeeWay that MiddleBro looks up to him like stars in the sky. (I'm actually kind of looking forward to it? I love meeting Panic but I never know what to say because I look up to Brendon and love him dearly--as my left shoulder can attest--but I'm also 95% sure that the reasons I do that would make him all squirmy and uncomfortable, and they also make me all squirmy and uncomfortable, and so I usually just smile awkwardly and squeak a lot. At least I know Gerard likes hearing that he makes a difference!) And then she is going to SPEND THE NIGHT and there will be a SLEEPOVER OF AWESOMENESS which, yay.

And then NEXT week A) I am hosting a murder mystery dinner thingy with my sister (...I really hope it goes well) and B) Skids is coming to town for a whole week! I'm going to make a Fringeist of her, you see if I don't. And then at the end of THAT week Skids's sister NinjaGirl is getting married and there will be lots of old friends and stuff.

ALSO: I am doing like, four days of meme because almost all of them are books and this meme is less exciting without pictures, so I'm going all the way down until there ARE pictures.

Whole List

In a Book--Janet Carter

I love Janet; I love her devotion to books, and I love that she is such a fabulous young adult, someone who is still learning to function in necessary relationships and in friendships and as an object of romance. I love her best friend from high school. I love her curiosity and her mulishness, her sensitivity to atmosphere and her rational thinking about it. In many ways, to me, Janet is the very ideal of academic learning, a passion for knowledge and a determination to check all her sources and back up all her ideas. I could read Tam Lin over and over again.

Older--Mary Alice Tate Sullivan Nachman Crane

Mary Alice takes life by the balls. She's two hundred and fifty pounds, five-twelve, and she has married three men, each at least twenty-five years older than she was, and incredibly wealthy...and she married them for love. She's a great sister and an amazing line dancer and sometimes she makes damn stupid business decisions. Men fall in love with her purple boots. I could rollick through ten thousand hideous bloody murders with Mary Alice and Patricia Anne, and I'm sad deep in my soul that her author died...I will listen over and over to the few stories we did get.

Character Arc--Frankie Landau-Banks

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks is my favorite Young Adult novel ever in the entire history of the whole world, and so it's probably kind of obvious that this would be my choice for character arc, because YA novels have the best character arcs. I love Frankie's progress from awkward, shy, and semi-passive, unsure and newly-bloomed, no idea how to give what boys want from her to standing up for herself and what she knows to be right, confident in pursuing what she wants, sure in what she needs out of a relationship. She develops her sense of self-confidence through artistry, cleverness, and a deeper understanding of the very historical roots she is subverting. She isn't wholly adult by the end of the novel; she still has growing up to do, but she's become someone who isn't afraid to reach for what she wants once she figures it out. I've never seen a more gorgeously developed character ever.

Mother--Mama Knight

That picture is from my favorite Mama Knight episode. In this episode, she walks in on two of her surrogate sons embracing enthusiastically and says, "Okay!" brightly. She walks past her son in drag (above) kissing his girlfriend dressed as a tiny old man (...don't ask) and says "Okay!" brightly. But when her boys are trying to hurt each other she says, "That's enough!" and wades into a fight between two brawling teenage boys and she totally breaks it up. Mama Knight is content and competent as a single parent of not only her own two children, but also three other boys. She's fierce in defense of any or all of "her" kids. When her brainiac ten-year-old daughter embarks on risky business ventures, she doesn't forbid her, she doesn't suggest that maybe Katie should consider smaller-scale ambitions...she just negotiates how much of the profit goes to the college fund. I love her a truly epic amount.

Heehee! I don't have a name! I am anon-y-mouse!

I can't wait to see you! I'm hoping we will get to shower GeeWay et al with praise. They play CO next, which should mean they have time to hang after. Fingers crossed and hope for the best!

I have never heard of this Mama Knight series, but it sounds fascinating! I shall have to look it up!

I have misspelled your username or something. *frowns at entry*

YAY SEEING YOU OMG.

If you have never heard of Big Time Rush I am ashamed to say I will probably invite the general crowd of MCR fans to throw fruit at us by enthusiasing over a TERRIBLE semi-fake boyband for, um, most of the time we're waiting in line.
