Apr. 12th, 2004 08:23 pmOmen?
I went to the little used bookstore I love near the library on Friday, because I'd meant to go the library but had forgotten it closed at five. I thought I had money with me, but I'd forgotten my wallet after all so I had to ask them to hold it until today. When I went in today...the manager was there, he struck up a conversation, he offered me a job. I could do this. I could do this well. I could enjoy doing this.
Does anybody know how one performs a tonsilectomy on oneself?

Date: 2004-04-12 06:49 pm (UTC)Hi, Lu. I'm from Earth. Apparently, you're from a planet where booksellers perform major surgery on themselves. Here on Earth, booksellers (and all other retail salespeople) tend to hire trained personnel for such work. Far be it from me to judge, however...
I worked in a bookstore once (twice, if you count the comic store, at which I spent more than I made). It was as cool a job as I had thought it would be. Except Christmas - working retail at Christmas just sucks.
Hey, I peeked at your Easter entry. I'm glad you made it through. I could tell you a few Family tales that would have you praising Solitude as the blessing it is, if you think that would help. Of course, I mention it just in the nick of *too late*... my timing always sucks!
Saaaay... you do know I sent you a ?? regarding direction for my next chappie, right?

Date: 2004-04-13 12:17 am (UTC)Thanks for the advice anyway...I just had to be self-indulgent and whiny for a bit, and then I called the fam and cheered up.
I live on Earth, too, but I live on an Earth where I don't know where to find a doctor and I can't sleep or eat because my throat is so nasty. So I was just considering self-mutilation in a good cause.

Date: 2004-04-13 05:20 am (UTC)No groveling necessary. I updated to the *correct* elucreh - I had never known there were so many out there! (Of course, if I remember correctly, you had an LJ entry mapping them out, right?)
LJ's are for expressing, so it's not whining to write it in an LJ. I tend to write stream-of-consciousness, so I hope my sarcastic manner didn't seem harsh.
I'm very glad you have family that can cheer you up. Very good thing.
Ok, 'nuff streaming. Take care!

Date: 2004-04-13 08:53 am (UTC)Yes, there are too many...lol. They all have a purpose, but it's grown rather out of proportion. I can't blame you for being confused. :-P

Date: 2004-04-12 06:52 pm (UTC)I had one too, which I was offered in much the same way as you. And then I had to bloody go and move. Bah.
Tonsillectomy? You need a bottle of whisky, a sharp knife, plenty of clean towels and an ambulance. Good luck!

Date: 2004-04-13 12:18 am (UTC)I'm mad, actually, because I don't think I am coming back in the fall, so I won't be able to take this one. *pouts*

"It's not fair!"
"No, it isn't. But that's the way it is."

(and I'm editing the rest so as not to shock the kids *eg*)
Congrats on the job prospect. Considering it's (in your words) "a little used bookstore," Christmas may not be too bad. My mom owns a bookstore and holiday seasons are rarely unbearable.
