I'm happy with my life. I'm excited about my classes and maybe-flirting with a cute boy and in a fandom I love and actually getting along okay with my family. My second family of old friends are actually more available than usual, and I feel like I can ask to play with them. My roommates are cooperative and adorable in a baby-kittens way. I'm eating a balanced diet and exercising regularly.

...why, exactly, I'm still having trouble getting out of bed and tired all the time and all the rest of it, I don't know and would like to find out. Presumably it means I need different meds, because this is depression even though there is no cause for depression. Or it might be the fibromyalgia really getting a grip; I have a lot more aches and pains than I used to. But I would like it to stop, whatever it is.

IN OTHER NEWS: I was trying to downsize my mother's applesauce recipe to be A) makeable in individual portions B) within a half-hour space C) by small children with supervision, for my Preschool Methods class. Originally, I bought six apples for experimenting. This morning, in the depths of despair, I returned to the grocery store and bought two dozen. I promptly discovered what I had been doing wrong and now have twenty-two apples.

...There will be a lot of apple-eating in my future. I'm also considering giving apples to my teachers and hoping they're amused, or something, because LOTS OF APPLES. ^_^

Maybe try vitamin D supplements? I was a zombie for months, until my doctor tested my blood and found the vitamin D levels low. You want the kind that's liquid inside a gel cap, and 1-2000 mgs/day.

Apples are yum.

I take a general vitamin thingy, is the thing. Supposedly it has my daily allowances of iron and D and A and magnesium and all the rest of the things that being deficient in might be causing this. Really I should go to the doctor and make her test my blood for everything that's probably wrong, but...bleh. She's far away and I hate the doctor because my childhood one scarred me and I really hate giving blood.

There's been a lot of research lately that the RDA for vitamin D is way too low (it seems like every other day I see a new science blog entry about a correlation between low D and some random disease). And the form in multivitamins can be difficult to absorb. Low thyroid might another reason for fatigue -- blood tests are icky but sometimes necessary. I hope you feel better, either way :)

I will give the supplement a try, then! I will see about getting tested, too, I promise.

I do hope the depression is figured out and fixed. But I wated to say what a good teacher you are/will be. That sort of thought and preperation shows real interest and caring and you'll be up for teacher of the year/month/school/district in no time!

And yay apples!

Back when I had that parasite *shudders* I was tired all the time, cold all the time, got sick easily, and started having joint aches. Thankfully, this doesn't sound like that. But I'm so unfamiliar with Celiac/Crohn's meds that I have no idea what it sounds like. :(

Wish I could be more helpful.

I think it's the fibro, really; I'm coming up on my sell-by date and mostly fibro doesn't really kick in until you're a real-true grown-up. The pains are in all the right places for it, you know?

I just need to keep up exercising--maybe kick it up to twice a day--and keep my heating pads handy. I hope, anyway.

it's great to read that you feel so positively about all that stuff. :)

re the tiredness/depression: i'd recommend extra vit D and also zinc/magnesium. both of those are often deficient. and often not absorbed in the amounts stated on supplement bottles. iykwim.

lol apples for the teachers!

I am curious about this recipe. I'm thinking more about making my own things, from scratch and this sounds like something that should be easier than my fears tell me it is. :D

I'm glad that things are generally aces for you, but yes, it sounds like either the fibro or the depression is working on you still. :( I'm sorry.

Applesauce is SO EASY. SO easy. This is why we love it. You can make it, seriously, with a sharp knife, a pot, and a potato masher. You can make it more easily with other (still reasonably cheap, though) equipment...I'd recommend investing in at least a twenty-dollar strainer and a one-dollar apple slicer if you're planning to make enough for storage...but for just, like, a winter snack or side that's all you need.

Dude. I am going to investigate this. I don't suppose you'd be willing to share your recipe when you get it sorted out? ~gives cow eyes~

Oh, sure! I mean, I did--it was due this afternoon.

Do you want the within-fifteen/one-serving/basic equipment version, or something a little more complex?

I'll take whatever you're willing to give me for now. :D I'm not in a position to buy fancy stuff right now, but maybe someday...so something more basic might be good for now. The serving size doesn't matter as much because I tend to cook all my meals for the week on the weekend anyway. Adding making applesauce to that routine isn't so difficult. :D

Okay, so, for one serving:

Cut an apple into eight slices, remove seeds and peel. Cut each slice into four pieces.

Put one inch of water into the bottom of a pan. Add apple pieces. (If you are doing more than one, add apple pieces and then add enough water that they're all floating; an inch is enough for one apple, but ymmv depending on the size of your pot and apple pieces if you make a bigger batch.)

Bring to a boil. Cover and reduce heat to medium-high. Cook for fifteen minutes.

Drain. Mash flat on a flat surface (I recommend a paper plate.)

Add a dollop of jam, a squiggle of honey, or a dash of cinnamon if desired.

The cooking time is for ONE McKintosh apple, though; if you are doing more than one, or are using a different variety you may have to experiment a little. If you want to set it cooking while you do other things, you can just quarter, core and peel, but then it's a little trickier to determine it's done.

I recommend Jonathans, actually, if you can get them; they're what my mom uses and it makes a tart, strong taste. They may need a little sugar, depending on how tart you like it.

(If you add in a strainer, you don't have to peel them, and it's less exercise for the arm muscles.)

It could be the fibro. Or it could just be something like slight anemia, combined with the autumn gloom. The seasons have a huge effect on how much sleep I need. But either way, I do hope it gets better soon! *squish*

(In other news, I was commentlurking and will now totally try out that applesauce recipe \o/.)
